Carrie Gets Hitched

Well if anything, we kind of know the ending to Sex and The City: The Movie - Carrie finally marries Mr. Big....or does she? Why is she riding in the car all alone after her face is unveiled? Where is Big? Are they really going to give us that happy ending? On another note, the dress is outlandish but fabulous and so is Charlotte's.

It's All In The Shoes

There is something about this image that is striking. I do not so much fancy the outfit as the shoes...those shoes are just marvelous, I am actually quite love stricken them. However, it is the image as a whole that captured my attention, perhaps it is the fact that she is glowing, or maybe it is her smile. I also love how the black juxtaposed against the warm glowing gold background makes such an impact.

Looking Back: "By Design; Paris Casual"

While Googling Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele for my previous post I came across this article from the New York Times, titled, "By Design: Paris Casual" from 1993 written by the late (and great) Carrie Donovan. I was quite surprised to come across such a dated article but it was really nice to read something from one of the industry's great writers back when fashion was still being created.

Now all fashion is is just a big wheel turning and turning, all it is today is a re-interpretation of the past and then a re-interpretation of that. It still is great, thanks to the handful of legends still designing, and because of the influx of new talent but I wonder what it must of been like to work in the industry and see history happening every season and being the one to cover the latest trend, one that would make history.

According to Ms. Donovan it was sneakers, particularly the white tennis shoe, and the oversized white men's shirt that was the trend in Paris in mid-July of 1993.

A Stylist's Take

Glimpsing through the pictures from Style.com's party for their new book (mentioned in an early post) Stylist:The Interpreters of Fashion, I payed close attention to how everyone styled their outfit and it was Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele that stood out the most. I love her take on the pantsuit, she totally glammed it up rocker/hip hop style but in such a perfectly not-over-done way. She paired a tailored suit with a sequined sloganed tee but it is the small details that make it fun - the rolled, pushed up sleeves, exposing the suit lining, the fact that the suit is a dark grey and not your typical black, the smartly chosen gold jewels (there but not in your face) and the gold watch. I think this is an easy, playfully fun look, one in which I will most likely take inspiration from.

The Very Sexy Heidi Collection

Heidi Klum has launched her first signature make up collection under Victoria's Secret. The Very Sexy Makeup Limited-Edition Heidi Collection Collection, in stores now, is a series of glamorous, sexy shades and textures of eye shadows, liners, lip glosses and lipsticks that mimic runway and red carpet looks, particularly that of Heidi Klum.

The collection is based on that understated glam look - dewy skin, glossy lips and sparkly eyes. A look made popular by Victoria's Secret models. Flip through any catalog or catch a glimpse of any runway show and you will know exactly what I mean. So I guess it is fitting that they use their favorite Angel for a limited edition collection.

The limited edition collection is quite limited with only four products and one color per product -Glitter Eye Liner in Bang ($12), Lip Gloss in Hot Coco ($12), Mosaic Eye Shadow in Beautiful ($18), and Perfect Lipstick in Heidi ($13) - the collection will sell fast. If you want a little piece of VS's Very Sexy Heidi then I highly suggest you make your purchases now.

I predict the Hot Coco Lipgloss ($12) will be the collection's #1 seller, so I advise getting your hands on it as soon as possible.

You can buy the collection at any Victoria's Secret stores or online at victoriassecret.com. I just put my order in for that coveted lip gloss and the mosaic eyeshadow.

Check out the behind-the-scenes footage of the photo shoot.

Book Club: The Super Sweet 16

I urge you to check out style.com's new book - Stylists: The Interpreters of Fashion - a book that goes behind the scenes of 16 of the industry's top stylists. Style.com takes you inside the book with a feature, coined the Super Sweet 16, that attempts to quiz your knowledge of these industry veterans. Some of my favorite questions:

"As a kid he studied every name and title on Vogue's masthead from A to Z and then tested himself on it? Who is he?

"All that matters to me when you look at a page is: "Do you want to be that girl, " said the stylist whose own look is much dissected. Who is she?

Who said: "I think it's a sin if you can't see the clothes"?

Making A Statement

Lauren Bush making a statement with her FEED bag at the Fox Business Network Launch Party at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It obviously does not go with her outfit, or that fab Balenciaga scarf but it definitely makes a statement and grabs the attention of the press. I actually think that it is great that she wore this bag at an event such as this when everyone else is wearing clutches. She obviously is not afraid to look a little off kilter and she definitely is dedicated to this project.

Style Spotlight: Cassie

Loving Cassie's style right now....she is starting to pop up every where and is getting a lot of red carpet coverage. Her style is definitely sexy yet there is a coolness to it that makes it not so in your face.Photos: wireimage.com

Kate & Karl

I love this image of Kate Bosworth and Karl Lagerfeld (taken in China at Fendi's Great Wall of China fashion show). This is another great fashion image for the books.

The Great China Wall cum The Great Runway

The Great Wall of China played host to a fashion show put on by Fendi that incorporated eighty-eight models on the industry's longest runway yet. Sprawled on China's 4,000 mile long historic landmark, the show took place one hour from Beijing in the Juyongguan region. The show, which was in production for one year, and reportedly cost $10 million, presented a special edition collection (espcially designed for the occassion) amongst a bevy of looks from the spring 2008 collection.

I think that this show definitely takes the typical runway venue to a whole other level and will definitely be the new benchmark in which all other fashion houses will look to for inspiration.

But it is Kate Bosworth, (who looked stunning) that said it right..."I seriously doubt that there will be anything of this magnitude or anything this magical for a very long time."

Amazingly much of the fashion folk did make the trek to the Far East, including the runway circuit's mainstay socialite attendees. This is definitely one show I would have loved to have witnessed first-hand, you get the best of both world's and then some - high-fashion, travel, history and culture.

Vote For Vogue's Best Dressed of the Year

Vote for Vogue's 10 Best Dressed of the Year and be automatically entered to win a Marc Jacobs Stam Bag. I think all of these Vogue choosen women are outstanding in their own personal way. Whether it be for physical/red carpet beauty or in terms of attitude and presence within the fashion industry and beyond. It was very difficult to pick just one of these woman because I think that they all contribute greatly to "dressing their best" but I think Charlize Theron wins in my book. She is always impeccably turned out, if not in Dior Couture, in some other stylish ensemble and she always makes it work. I am a little disappointed that Demi Moore did not make the cut as I think she is the best dressed and most stylish of late. She just radiates fabulousness.

Kate Moss For Top Shop Christmas

I just saw these images on wireimage.com, for the Kate Moss Topshop Christmas Collection Launch and I think Kate Moss looks brilliant. I love the blond, the bob and the bangs, it's all about the triple B, sooner or later you will be seeing this do every where. According to Kate, it's about the hair, the glitter, and the wide-leg pant. Not only did Kate look good but so did Elle Macpherson and Jade Jagger. I think, above and beyond the clothes, it is the glossy, glam dirty blond hair that attracted me. Accessories are what make the outfit and in this particular case, I think the best accessory now a day is hair - long, glossy and glamorous.

The Rose Bowl

I ended up getting to the Rose Bowl Flea Market at 7 A.M. instead of my planned 5 A.M. but I was still early enough to get some great early bird finds. This market is the market to hit for great little treasures whether it be furniture, decorative pieces, random little collectibles, jewelry, handbags, clothes and the like. I found some vintage Gucci and Dior handbags, as well as some fabulous estate type era jewels and some really, really fabulous Balenciaga sunglasses from the '70s. I recommend anyone in the greater Los Angeles area to definitely check it out, it is definitely worth waking up at 5 A.M.

The Rose Bowl Flea Market goes on once a month, on every second Sunday. For more information, visit rgcshows.com

Los Angeles Day 1

My first stop was Resurrection and then Marc by Marc Jacobs on Melrose. Resurrection had a great little selection of vintage finds but nothing rivaling its counterpart down the street Decades and Decades Two. I also visited Marc by Marc Jacobs which was truly, truly disappointing. I cannot express just how disappointing.

For one there was a Halloween themed window, which perhaps, if done tastefully, can be acceptable, but the Marc by Marc Jacobs window was just flat out tacky. I know that Marc can get away with just about anything but if you walked into his store on Melrose, you may double think that train of thought. His merchandise offerings were poor - a handful of ready-to-wear lined a small portion of a wall, handbags and shoes were sparsely displaced throughout the back of the store and the rest of the store was filled with tees and $5.00 cheapies (everything from plastic bangles to Made in China sticker logoed mirror compacts and PVC change purses). I understand his wanting to appeal to the young and those with limited disposable income but I feel like his Melrose store looked more like a thrift shop than anything else. It was a pretty unsatisfying experience.

I next moved onto Kitson on Robertson. I visited the original store and the new studio store, which I personally think is a rough mix of the original store and Intermix, which just opened doors a couple of doors down. The merchandise mix is right and it is not as overwhelming cluttered as the first Kitson shop. It actually was peaceful and not as stressful.

I will post some pictures later after I return from the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea Market which I plan on being at at 6am when the doors open.

Chicago's Barney's Co-Op

One of my most inspiring stops on my Chicago shopping itinerary was Barney's Co-Op. I loved their visual displays, mannequins and props. It relaxes the shopping atmosphere and helps make the whole experience fun rather than stressful.

The Best Dressed Man of The Night

The best dressed man at the UGG Australia store opening would have to be Tony Donnelly, the Visual Merchandising Designer for the company. I love his raw edge suit and muted sequin tie, not to mention the cut-off biker gloves. A resident of London, I assumed it was a Brit made ensemble however this snazzy suit was made-to-measure in Las Vegas.

UGG Australia Opens its Doors in Chicago

I attended the UGG Australia store opening last night on Rush Street. The company's first in Chicago and second retail outlet in North America. The 1,500 square foot store was overflowing with eager patrons excited to slip their feet into a pair of plush sheepskin boots.

I don't care who says the UGG craze is over, they still are the most comfortable shoe/boot I have ever worn. They may not always be the most flattering but the comfort level, I guarantee, will never fail you. I have 5 pairs and I always tend to pull them out of my closet over any other daytime shoe. I have also officially made them my travel footwear of choice.

The store looks great and the UGG team seem like a great fun bunch all dedicated to the brand. I think that despite what some may say, the UGG brand is really riding high, with product expansions, stores opening up all over North America, and a permanent fixture in the ad pages of Vogue, I think that UGG is fast becoming one of America's most powerful affordable luxury brands.

Going to....

I will be going to Chicago and Los Angeles for 5 days. I am going for business but of course the fashion biz is not really all strictly business all the time. I will be visiting a fair amount of shops in both cities...Ikram & P.45 in Chicago and the usual Kitson & Fred Segal in L.A. but with a couple of vintage shops thrown in and the highlight of the trip the Rosebowl Flea Market in Pasadena on Sunday. Apparently, this Flea Market gets flooded with celebs who scour it as early as 5:00 A.M., they have the best vintage in the country...so I have heard...I will be sure to have a full report.

Style Spotlight: Ms. Fashion Forward

I love seeing The Sartorialist's street style photos during the shows, he always snaps some great shots. I love this shot of a typical fashion girl in her fashion outfit. Forward she is. And you only see this in Paris. It's great to see girls wearing the incredible, sometimes unreasonable, runway fashions, it is quite inspiring and definitely exciting.

Paris FW Spring 2008: Yohji Yamamoto

Another brilliant collection concocted by no else but Mr. Yohji Yamamoto. The spring collection is infused with signature and classic Yamamoto style. Yes, he is known for mixing the feminine with the masculine but it is the cut and drape of his clothes that captivates me. I think I could stare at these images for hours. The amount of detailing in his work is awe-inspiring. Just take for example the fifth image - it takes a design mastermind to create a asymmetrical meuille-feuille-like layered chiffon dress. I think the nucleus of Yamamoto's work is classic wherein he piles all the splendor of radical detailing and innovative ideals. A great collection, but more so, a great designer, one who keeps on delivering.

Paris FW Spring 2008: Dior

I love it! I just took a quick look at Dior and I love the spring 2008 collection. It is really all about a return to classic Dior and this season it is all about the clothes, no theatrics, just clothes. While keeping it classic, there still was the sense that Galliano was at the helm and not Mr. Dior himself. Take for example this loud, yet still classic, leopard and pin stripe ensemble - definitely a Galliano creation.

SATC Style: Typical Carrie

So I know it's old news by now, but for those very few who don't know, Sex and The City will return, to the wide screen that is. Sex and The City: The Movie, is presently being filmed in New York. I love this typical Carrie look - big puff dress and funky feathered purse.

Style Spotlight: The Working Girl

This girl is what I think we all, or at least some, aspire to be, that perfectly coiffed working girl - working but looking incredibly fantastic while doing so. This girl looks completely coiffed, I can't imagine doing the circuit of shows and getting to Milan, third or second (if you skip London) city on the schedule and looking so put together. I think I would be a mess, especially lugging my laptop everywhere. I would love to see how she makes a mad dash for the door at the end of the show, laptop and all.

Paris Fashion Week

Spring 2008 has finally hit Paris, starting yesterday and finishing October 7th, I am looking forward to what my three favorites - Chanel, YSL, & Dior - produce.
